How Amazon's Request a Review System Works
Amazon gives sellers one official way to ask customers for reviews: the Request a Review feature. When triggered, Amazon sends a pre-written, non-customizable message to the customer asking them to rate both the product and the seller. Because Amazon controls the message entirely, this method is guaranteed to comply with Amazon's Terms of Service.
This request can only be sent within a specific window: 5 to 30 days after the order's confirmed delivery date. Only one request is allowed per order. Amazon enforces both of these rules at the API level — outside the window, the request simply fails.
What Automation Does
Amazon review request automation tools like StarQuester connect to your Seller Central account via SP-API. They monitor your incoming orders and, when each order reaches your configured trigger point (for example, 7 days after delivery), they automatically call Amazon's API to send the review request.
The result is identical to manually clicking "Request a Review" in Seller Central — the same Amazon-written message, sent through Amazon's system — but done automatically for every eligible order without any manual effort.
TOS Compliance: What's Allowed vs. What Gets Accounts Suspended
Allowed
- ✓ Using the official Request a Review API
- ✓ One request per order
- ✓ Sending within the 5–30 day window
- ✓ Authorized third-party tools using SP-API
Prohibited
- ✗ Custom emails asking for reviews
- ✗ Incentivizing reviews (discounts, refunds, gifts)
- ✗ Review gating (only contacting happy customers)
- ✗ More than one request per order
StarQuester only uses Amazon's official API — every action it takes is equivalent to clicking the approved button in Seller Central.
Why Sellers Use It
Product reviews directly influence two things that matter most to Amazon sellers: search rankings (Amazon's algorithm treats reviews as a strong relevance signal) and conversion rates (shoppers trust products with more reviews).
Most sellers see a 3–5x increase in review volume simply by consistently requesting reviews for every eligible order. The challenge is scale — manually clicking for every order becomes unmanageable above 50–100 orders per month. Automation ensures no eligible order is missed, every request goes out at the optimal timing, and sellers spend zero time on the task.
